Blarney Castle – the stone and the gardens
Blarney, cork
Cormac Láidir MacCarthy built the tower house in 1446, and the stone set in its battlements – kissed leaning backwards over a sheer drop – gave English the word ‘blarney’. Book online and go early: the stone queue builds through summer mornings, and the Poison Garden, Rock Close and 22-acre lake deserve the extra hours.
