Museums & Attractions in County Fermanagh

Four of these six sit on the limestone in the south-west of the county, and they are largely the same rock seen from different angles. Marble Arch Caves on the Marlbank Road is the anchor: 11.5 km of river-carved passage, the longest cave system in Northern Ireland, toured in 75 minutes with a short boat ride, 154 steps and a steady 9–10°C throughout. The wider Marble Arch Geopark, rebranded Cuilcagh Lakelands in 2021, carries that limestone across the border into Cavan and takes in the wooded Cladagh gorge beneath its natural stone arch.

In the same belt, the hamlet of Boho sits above Ireland’s deepest cave system and deepest daylight shaft, with a medieval high cross and the Reyfad Stones to look at on the surface. Pollnagollum, the longest cave in Ireland, lies in Belmore Forest nearby, and an easy 7 km forest loop reaches the platform facing the 12-metre waterfall that pours into its mouth.

The other two are indoor and on the water. Belleek Pottery has been working on the River Erne since 1857, and the half-hour factory tour past the moulding and basket-weaving costs £9, though the visitor centre itself is free. Boatyard Distillery occupies a converted boathouse at Enniskillen. Both are worth holding in reserve, because heavy rain can close the caves at short notice; check on the day rather than driving out on spec.
