Towns & Villages in County Limerick

Two of the eleven entries here are parts of Limerick city itself. Newtown Pery is the Georgian grid Christopher Colles began laying out in 1769, with the six-house terrace of Pery Square looking onto People’s Park; the Milk Market is a few streets away on Mungret Street, so the pair make one walk. Saturday is the market day that matters, when more than 60 food stalls fill the hall under its canopy. Friday and Sunday are quieter, given over to vintage stalls, crafts and a café.

Everything else is a drive. Adare lies 15km southwest along the River Maigue, its Main Street lined with the thatched cottages the 3rd Earl of Dunraven built in the 1830s, and Adare Manor at the end of it hosts the 2027 Ryder Cup. The same river bends through Croom, below castle walls begun in 1210, and Bruree, where Éamon de Valera spent his childhood, lies in the same south-eastern corner.

The rest of the southern group gathers under the hills. Kilmallock keeps over 1,200 metres of medieval town wall in the Loobagh valley, Kilfinnane at 151 metres is the county’s highest town and the start of the Ballyhoura mountain-bike network, and Anglesborough sits higher again at the foot of the Galtees. Out west are Abbeyfeale and Feenagh; Pallasgreen is on its own in the east, on the N24.
