Crindle Stables – beach horse rides

📍 Limavady, Londonderry

🏛️ Attraction

Last updated: 29 June 2026

Overview

If you book one thing here, make it the beach ride. Crindle Stables works from a farm and stud near Limavady, below Binevenagh on the Causeway Coastal Route, and its guided rides head out onto the wide sands of Benone and Downhill, with Mussenden Temple on the clifftop across the water. It started as a show-jumping yard and has grown into a full riding school and livery, but the coast is what sets it apart from an inland centre.

One thing to know up front: this is not a drop-in attraction. Everything runs by appointment, and the beach rides in particular depend on the tide, so you need to book ahead rather than turn up.

Riders start with a short grounding session at the yard, then head out along the tide line at Benone and Downhill. Tide and weather set the departure window, so the team adjusts timings to keep footing safe for horses and riders alike. The ride is themed seasonally at times of the year: an Easter beach ride in spring, a St Patrick’s Day outing branded the Ceili, Craic & Forest Hack with music and a wooded farm trail alongside the coast. Beach rides run around £160 per person at the time of writing, so check current rates when you book.

Lessons and sessions

Lessons run on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, as group classes or private tuition, with a structure that suits any age and level:

  • Toddlers and children – early sessions on balance, coordination and getting comfortable around the ponies.
  • Adult beginners – mounting, steering, stopping and basic horsemanship at a low-pressure pace; adult-only lessons are available.
  • Advanced and show-jumping – approach lines and jumping technique for experienced riders, drawing on the yard’s competition background.

For younger or non-riding visitors there are also shorter options: an Adventure Ride (around £40) blending a short lesson, gentle trail riding, grooming and games; an indoor Pony Pals session of pony care without mounting; and an Own a Pony for a Day that runs through feeding, tacking up and a supervised ride. A Halloween adventure ride runs in season, and the yard arranges bespoke packages for parties, corporate groups and stag or hen weekends.

Accessibility and special needs

Crindle runs sensory, autism-friendly sessions designed for children with additional needs, focused on calm, structured time with the horses. The yard is not a dedicated disability facility, and access is handled case by case, but staff can arrange wheelchair access to parts of the yard and adapted saddle seating where possible. Contact them ahead of time to discuss what you need.

Facilities and reviews

The yard rates five stars across TripAdvisor, Facebook and Google, and was named Equestrian Specialists of the Year for 2020/2021. On-site parking is available and all major cards are accepted; gift vouchers can be bought for visitors or local riders. Wear sturdy, closed-toe footwear with a small heel and bring a waterproof, layered for coastal weather that turns quickly.

Getting there

Crindle Stables is at 6 Carrowclare Road, Myroe, Limavady, BT49 9ED, roughly 30 km from Derry and well signposted from the A2. The nearest train is Bellarena station on the Derry–Belfast line, and local Translink buses serve the Myroe area, though rural timetables thin out at weekends, so check before relying on them.

Booking is essential for almost everything; the online portal on the official site handles lessons, beach rides and seasonal events. Reserve beach rides at least a week ahead in school holidays and peak summer, when tide windows and instructor availability cap the daily slots. To make a day of it, pair a ride with Swann’s Bridge below Binevenagh or the trails at Binevenagh Nature Reserve.
