Overview

Perched on the award‑winning blue‑flag beach of Clogherhead, Neptune Watersports Centre (also known as Neptune Outdoor Education Centre) is Louth’s premier outdoor‑adventure hub. The site offers a mix of water‑based and land‑based activities – from surfing the Atlantic swells to rock‑wall climbing, from raft‑building challenges to archery ranges. Its location, just a short drive from Dublin, makes it an ideal day‑trip, weekend retreat, or the base for multi‑day corporate programmes.

The centre’s ethos is simple: provide fun, confidence‑building experiences that work for anyone aged 11‑70. Whether you are a school group, a family on holiday, a hen party, or a company looking to sharpen leadership skills, Neptune delivers a programme that mixes excitement with real‑world learning.

History

Neptune first opened its doors in 1996, operating out of a modest Portakabin down the road from the local lifeboat station. Three years ago the centre secured a partnership with Louth County Council, which funded a purpose‑built facility complete with public toilets and a dedicated lifeguard space. The new venue, set directly on Clogherhead beach, was officially opened by Minister Dermot Ahern in May 2007.

The centre quickly earned recognition for its environmental stewardship, winning the Best Environmental Award at the Drogheda Business Excellence Awards in 2007 and later being nominated for a Local Authority Members Award in the eco‑friendly building and recreational facility categories.

Under the leadership of Peter Cronin, Neptune has broadened its focus beyond summer camps. The centre now markets corporate events, hen and stag parties, and year‑round school programmes, aiming to attract 10,000 visitors annually and inject fresh economic activity into the Drogheda‑Clogherhead corridor.

Location & Access

By car – From Dublin, take the M1 north to the N2, then follow signs for Drogheda and Clogherhead (approximately 80 km, 1 hour 15 minutes). Free on‑site parking is available.
