Overview

Newbridge Silverware Visitor Centre sits in the heart of Ireland’s Ancient East, just off the M7 and a 45‑minute drive from Dublin. The complex houses a flagship lifestyle store, the world‑renowned Museum of Style Icons, a fully integrated cutlery and jewellery factory, the award‑winning Silver Restaurant, and Café Carleton. It is marketed as a one‑stop destination where visitors can see, feel and hear Irish craftsmanship alongside iconic pieces of global fashion history.

History / Background

Founded in 1934 as a cooperative to provide employment in Newbridge, County Kildare, Newbridge Silverware began by producing silver cutlery for export. Under chief executive William Doyle, the business diversified into jewellery in the 1990s and, driven by his personal passion for fashion, amassed a private collection of couture garments. In 2007 the Museum of Style Icons opened on the upper floor of the Visitor Centre, showcasing the collection to the public and cementing the site as a cultural hub. Today the centre celebrates over 90 years of Irish manufacturing while positioning itself as a showcase of 20th‑century style.

What to See & Do

Museum of Style Icons

Free entry, self‑guided. The museum rotates its displays, but permanent highlights include:

  • Audrey Hepburn’s hot‑pink cocktail dress from Breakfast at Tiffany’s and her black Givenchy dress from Charade.
  • The Beatles’ stage suits from the A Hard Day’s Night tour.
  • Princess Diana’s purple‑red ball gown with matching bolero, and two rare outfits owned by Princess Grace – the only pieces displayed outside Monaco.
  • Marilyn Monroe photographs, Elvis Presley memorabilia, and Irish film costumes such as those from The Banshees of Inisheerin and Normal People. Special “Get up Close & Personal” sessions let small groups handle selected garments while wearing white gloves.
