Five of the eight places on this page are within sight of the same stretch of coast. The Cliffs of Moher run for 14 km and top out at 214m just north of O’Brien’s Tower, the round lookout Cornelius O’Brien built in 1835, where an iron spiral stair climbs to a rooftop view of Loop Head, the Kerry mountains and the Aran Islands. Hag’s Head is the southern end of the same wall, free and unfenced, with the ruined Moher Tower for company and no visitor centre; parking there is awkward, and the cliff path through to the centre has been shut since 2024. Liscannor, 5 km back along the bay, is the working harbour village most people pass through on the way.
Inland and north, the Burren is a different landscape entirely: bare, cracked limestone pavement that still carries more than 70% of Ireland’s native wildflowers, along with the Poulnabrone dolmen and the show caves. Cappanwalla, a 312m limestone hill above Ballyvaughan, gives you the walker’s version of it, either a two-hour loop near Gleninagh or the 24 km Black Head Loop out of Fanore.
South-west, the Kilkee cliff walk is free and open all year, past the Bishop’s Island sea stack and the tidal Pollock Holes, anything from half an hour to an 8 km loop. Slieve Callan, 391m and boggy underfoot, is the one that needs a clear day; the 360° view from Mount Brandon round to the Burren is the whole reason to go up.

Book online and arrive before 11am or after 4pm for the lowest fares and the thinnest crowds; the gate rate is €15 and the famous coastal walk is largely closed for safety in early 2026.

Add the 5,000-year-old Poulnabrone dolmen, show caves and the Cliffs of Moher on the same UNESCO geopark, and it is one of the strangest landscapes in the country.

Hag's Head is the southern tip of the Cliffs of Moher, where the rock forms a profile like a woman's head looking out to sea. It's the free, quiet end of the cliffs – no visitor centre, no fences, the ruined Moher Tower for company and a long view north along the whole 14km wall. Getting here is the catch: parking is a mess and the cliff path through to the visitor centre has been closed since 2024.

Kilkee's cliffs give you Atlantic drama without the Cliffs of Moher crowds: a free, year-round cliff walk past the Bishop's Island sea stack and the tidal Pollock Holes, from a 30-minute stroll to an 8 km loop. The Kilkee Cliff Walk was TripAdvisor's best-rated Irish attraction in 2024.

Cornelius O'Brien built this round stone tower in 1835 at the highest point of the Cliffs of Moher, 188 metres up, to give visitors a lookout. Climb the iron spiral stair to the rooftop for views stretching from Loop Head and the Kerry mountains to the Aran Islands and Galway Bay. Since 2022, JJ Corry whiskey has been maturing in barrels inside.
