Overview

Ardee Golf Club sits in the heart of County Louth, just 45 minutes north of Dublin via the M1 motorway. The club operates as a semi‑private venue, welcoming visitors every day for a round on its 18‑hole, par‑71 parkland course. Measuring 6,490 yards from the back tees, the layout weaves through mature trees and incorporates water on nine of the eighteen holes, delivering a blend of strategic challenge and scenic beauty.

The course was originally laid out by renowned Irish architect Eddie Hackett and later expanded and remodelled by Declan Branigan in the 1990s, giving it a modern feel while retaining classic parkland characteristics. Whether you are a seasoned pro or a weekend enthusiast, Ardee offers a fair test for all abilities.

History & Background

Founded in 1911 as South Louth Golf Club, the original nine‑hole layout was situated southeast of Ardee. By 1919 the club had moved to its present site at Townparks, and in 1985 the course was extended to 18 holes under Hackett’s guidance. The early 1990s saw further land acquisition, allowing Branigan to add five new holes and reshape the course into the championship‑standard layout seen today. A long‑term Course Improvement Plan was later drawn up by Ken Kearney, ensuring ongoing enhancements.

The club’s heritage is celebrated in local lore; the town’s name, Áth Fhirdhia (the Ford of Ferdia), recalls the legendary Cú Chulainn battle nearby. This deep‑rooted history adds a cultural layer to the golfing experience, making a round at Ardee feel like a step through Irish sporting tradition.
